We need a team of Volunteer Wardens – do you have the time and dedication to make a real difference?
We are a conservation charity with over 800 acres of wild green spaces to manage for the benefit of nature and people. Without our team of dedicated volunteers we wouldn’t get the job done.
Wardens are our eyes and ears on the ground
At the moment we manage 14 nature reserves and, as a small charity with limited resources, we cannot be everywhere all the time! They need lots of attention, and we do our best to provide it, but we’d like to do more.
Would you be willing to give your time to help in this effort?
We need a dedicated team of volunteer wardens to take on the regular maintenance tasks that make a real difference to the reserves: Keeping them presentable. Engaging with the public. Gathering important survey data so we can face the issues impacting habitats, and the species living there, head-on.
Regular visits…
We need wardens to visit their dedicated site at least once a month (and preferably weekly). You will organise your schedule with the other members of a small volunteer team, and report back to the Reserves Manager on your plans for work activities. This information will guide our efforts and make us more responsive to issues that arise.
A friendly face for the public…
As a representative of Tees Valley Wildlife Trust, you’ll need to be happy talking to the public. You’ll keep them informed and foster their interest in caring for the natural world, as well as helping them with any questions.
Following your interests…
Whether it’s doing some light habitat management, completing species surveys, litter picking, or helping at events, we’ll embrace your dedication to doing more for wildlife and people in your area. Where funding and availability allows, we’ll help you develop your skills, and we’ll always support you as an ambassador for the Trust.
How we’d like it to work
Given some of the Trust’s nature reserves are close to each other, we’re looking to appoint Volunteer Wardens and Assistant Wardens for the following nature reserves:
- Margrove Ponds & Woodhill meadows
- Cattersty, Hummersea & Hunt Cliff
- Saltburn Gill SSSI
- Coatham Marsh SSSI
- The Howls
- Gravel Hole
- Bowesfield (including the Southolm and Preston Farm areas)
- Hardwick Dene & Elm Tree Wood
Wardens and Assistant Wardens will work together when they visit the nature reserve, to avoid lone working and to give support to each other. Additional support will be welcomed in the form of dedicated reserve volunteers who, under the direction of the Volunteer Warden, can be called on when tasks require more people. In this role you are free to give what time you can, working with the warden and warden’s assistant to arrange your attendance.
