This village of Loftus has been linked to the alum trade for over 200 years. Loftus Alum Quarry is located on the cliffs north of the village and is now owned and managed by the National Trust.

Keep your eyes open as you walk for fantastic fossils. This site has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of the fossils found here during the excavation of rock to make alum. Perhaps you will find a deep sea reptile or coiled ammonite shell as you walk.
